Public Safety

Public Safety

Public safety is a cornerstone of a strong, thriving community. Our campaign is committed to ensuring that every Ohioan feels safe and secure in their neighborhood. We believe that effective law enforcement, community policing, and respect for civil rights can and must go hand in hand.

Advocating for effective law enforcement practices means supporting our police officers with the training, resources, and tools they need to protect and serve our communities effectively. We will promote policies that ensure law enforcement is equipped to respond to the complex challenges they face, from violent crime to mental health crises. This includes expanding access to advanced training in de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention, and cultural competency, helping officers to better serve all members of the community.

Community policing is at the heart of our public safety strategy. We believe that building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve is essential to creating safer neighborhoods. Our plan includes initiatives to strengthen these relationships through increased transparency, accountability, and community engagement. By involving residents in the development and implementation of public safety strategies, we can ensure that policing is responsive to the needs and concerns of the community.

Respecting civil rights is non-negotiable. We are committed to ensuring that public safety measures do not come at the expense of individual freedoms and liberties. Our approach includes advocating for policies that prevent racial profiling, excessive use of force, and other practices that undermine trust in law enforcement. We will also work to strengthen oversight mechanisms, ensuring that any misconduct is addressed swiftly and fairly.

In addition to traditional law enforcement, we recognize the importance of addressing the root causes of crime, such as poverty, lack of education, and limited economic opportunities. Our public safety plan includes support for programs that provide alternatives to incarceration, such as diversion programs, rehabilitation, and job training for those involved in the criminal justice system. By addressing these underlying issues, we can reduce recidivism and create safer, more resilient communities.

We also understand the critical role that first responders play in public safety. Our plan includes ensuring that firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency personnel have the support they need to do their jobs effectively. This includes investing in the latest technology, equipment, and training to enhance their ability to respond to emergencies quickly and efficiently.

Public safety is about more than just reducing crime—it’s about creating a community where everyone feels secure, respected, and valued. Together, we can build an Ohio where public safety is achieved through collaboration, accountability, and a shared commitment to justice for all.
